Rex Joseph Allen is a diversified entertainer who has shared his God given talents for many years. He started playing guitar at the age of 5. He actually started playing in church with his sisters and one brother when he was 7 years old. Around the age of 14, Rex and some of his friends started a band and practiced in the garage for a full year. The bass player’s father liked their sound and started managing the band. He booked them to play city events (police & mayor functions) around New Castle, IN. The band also entered many talent contests and won most of them. This opened the doors for the band to start playing in the Moose, Elks, and Eagles lodges, the VFW, the American Legion and many more venues. They even played at the Coon Hunters Club in Anderson, IN. Being they were minors, they had to sit at one designated table during break and had to be escorted to the bathroom. The band recorded a single, co-written by Rex, called "GONE YES GONE" after about 2 years of playing together. This song got a lot of air play around the state of Indiana, especially in the Indianapolis area. The song also opened the doors for Rex and the band to open for, and back up some well known Nashville stars!
After the band members went their separate ways, Rex played in several more bands while making several trips to Nashville. The first time Rex traveled to Nashville, within two hours, Boots Jenkins booked Rex on Ralph Emery’s Morning Show for the very next day. Rex’s performance was a great success. As a result of this performance, Rex was booked with Porter Wagner on the Grand Ole Opry soon there after!
Rex continued to write and perform in the years to come, and has experienced many successes in the music industry. Rex has played many different types of venues from cruise ships to dance clubs, the Grand Old Opry Hotel to Holiday Inns throughout the United States, from major outdoor events to the General Jackson Show Boat in Nashville, TN. He has worked with Johnny Paycheck, Freddy Weller, the Hagar Twins, the Kindells, Buddy Allen (Buck Owens' son), Jimmy C Newman, Eddy Raven, Joel Sonia, Johnny Rodriguez, Jan Howard, Ronnie Stoneman, the Dance Hall Doctors (Tim McGraw band) and many others.
Rex recorded the songs you’ll hear on this website from 2003 to 2005. Some of the songs were written over 30 years ago and have been performed all over the United States. |
